Given the choice of getting 12 tracks or 15 tracks, that’s easy so get the version of this CD with the 3 bonus cuts. In comparison to earlier Derek Trucks CDs, this one has quite a bit less guitar solos and they are for the most part, shorter solos. There’s a lot more vocals here than before and a lot more vocals than you’ll see at a Derek Trucks concert.
There’s just one instrumental and that is the 14th track”Swamp Raga” which is pretty laid back and one of the bonus cuts.
As to the vocal tracks, Susan Tedeschi’s track is excellent as are Doyle Bramhall’s tracks. The opener “Down in the Flood” is very good also but the rest of the songs are in the good to very good but not great category. Overall, this is a very good effort but it could have been excellent with less singing and more jamming from Derek and the rest of the band.
